HBNW SADV HOUT BAY & LLANDUDNO COMMUNITY SAFETY FIBRE NETWORK PROJECT.
Q & A’s for Body Corporates, Homeowners Associations and residents

How does my estate and it’s residents benefit?

Direct benefits:
You get faster and cheaper internet access.  As more people discover what they can do via the internet they will need more bandwidth to cater for all the new activities they will start to participate in. Online education, gaming, streaming videos, downloading music and books, online shopping and remote office working etc... Simply put residents will need LOTS more bandwidth at cheaper rates which only the fibre networks will be able to provide.
EG:  A year ago fibre was only available in a limited number of areas in Hout Bay and a wireless package of 5Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload speed uncapped would have cost you R 899.00 per month. Currently a fibre package of 10Mbs down load and 2 Mbps upload uncapped can be had for R 699.00.  That’s double the speed at 22% less the price and as more people join the fibre network, the faster and cheaper it will get. And it’s getting cheaper all the time.

Additional Benefits:
DSTV System upgrade. DSTV is in the process of moving everyone to a new fibre based platform. The same fibre network that is installed for your residents needs will also provide the backbone to facilitate the transition from the old to the new DSTV platform.

Estate Intercom System. The old Telkom or private hardwired intercom systems can be upgraded by running it across the new fibre network.

Enhanced security in and around the estate.
Security network. The fibre network provides the estate with a secure and reliable data network to support any security systems that the HOA or Body Corporate may wish to implement such as CCTV or controlled access points.
SADV’s HBNW crime prevention package provides estates with a free 10 to 1 CCTV camera point option. For every 10 FTTH (Fibre to the Home) end points installed in the estate SADV will provide a free CCTV end point. This means that if you have 50 homes all connected to the fibre that you will gain 5 CCTV points which can be used to monitor vulnerable sections on the estates perimeter or entrances.
As part of the Hout Bay Integrated Community Safety Plan (ICSP) these PSV (Public Space Viewing) CCTV cameras are linked back to Hout Bay’s Community Response Centre at HBNWatchcon.

A safer community beyond your estate.
Your estates participation in the broader ICSP (Integrated Community Safety Plan) through the Fibre project helps sustain your community’s efforts to suppress crime.  Despite rapid urbanisation and densification the SAPS Sector Policing resources of Hout Bay and Llandudno remain as under resourced as they were in 2005.  Only through the introduction of HBNWatchcon and other civil safety projects designed to assist SAPS has crime in our community been supressed to manageable proportions.   With many other communities struggling to cope with violent gangs and drug related issues the SAPS and CoCT Law enforcement resources of Hout Bay will not be increased any time soon.  It therefore remains up to us the citizens to take pro-active measures to ensure our own safety by keeping crime levels contained and constantly working to reduce them further.

What do I need to do get on board?

Contact Rod on ops@hbnw.co.za  or SMS "Fibre" to 083 454 9090 to set up a meeting with your Home Owners Association (HOA) or Body Corporate so we can help you to help us make our community a safer place to live in.

Some Additional benefits:

Free Monitoring of PSV CCTV Cameras. HBNW has concluded a sponsorship agreement with monitoring company Verifier to assist our CCTV crime prevention program by monitoring certain of the community PSV cameras free of charge.

Data Analytics. Simply monitoring cameras is not enough as monitoring staff are easily overwhelmed by too many camera views so it is necessary to use data analytic programs which trigger alerts to the controllers when suspicious behaviour is detected by CCTV cameras.  HBNW has acquired limited sponsorship for analytic services to underpin the community CCTV crime prevention project.
