'Love your Neighbour' evening a success

(story and photos by Lindy Nauta)

14 Feb 2012 - Last week’s annual Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch bash, held at the gracious Riverside Estates in Valley Road, was a huge success with many new faces among the members attending.

Tickets for the spit braai were quickly sold out and an additonal thirty tickets were made available. Guests were greeted with a glass of champagne and enjoyed a delicious meal, many won great prizes (with a total value of over R20 000) and once the music started in earnest, members showed their mettle on the dancefloor.

“The Bruce Taylor Award"

The annual Bruce Taylor Award for the member who is considered to have contributed the most during the last year, was given to Julie Banham, current chairperson of the HBNW. Julie has been an active member of the HBNW since its inception in 2005 and became vice chairperson in 2007. With the exception of a 6 months gap, Julie has continuously served as the chairperson or vice chair for over five years. Without a doubt a worthy recipient of the Bruce Taylor Award.

May/Jun poll: What is your opinion of the proposal that HBNW needs a professional manager.
No, we should continue to manage it with volunteers
Yes, we need to have a professional manager to keep HBNW running successfully
I'm not sure. It's a good idea but I don't think we will manage to raise the funds to keep it going.
